Would you like to build a lineup?
Each Thursday I'll give a little breakdown on how to build your lineup with the information readily available to everyone, especially if you don't know where to start.
this can always change pending preview numbers and are by no means a guarantee to win
FML Legend (so you aren't completely lost)
BP - Best Performer; earns you an extra $2 million to your cinema, this is the "highest Box Office per FML Bux"
PC - Perfect Cineplex; earns you an extra $5 million to your cinema, this when you elect the perfect lineup "resulting in the highest possible total Box Office score plus any bonuses already earned."
WP - Worst Performer; this is the worst movie based on Box Office per FML Box spent
TC - Theatre Count; how many theatres the movie will be appearing in, this will up or down depending on how long the movie has been out for, special events etc
BB/Bar - Bonus Bar; this is the predicted value a movie needs to meet/exceed to be your BP contender.
Holdover - a movie that is in its second or more week on the slate.
Slate - the 15 movies you get to choose from each week :)
Anchor - The movie most likely to helm your cineplex; this can be anything from the movie that will make the most Box Office money over the weekend, or multiples of the same movie that helms your cineplex.
Last week…ugh. What a way to start off the season with an 8x PC play. For those who went all in on "The Way Back", congrats! You have nerves of steel.
This week we see "Bloodshot", "I Still Believe" and "The Hunt" get added to the slate. It will be extremely interesting to see what will happen in the weeks ahead. COVID-19 has been declared a pandemic, all sports are canceled, schools across the country are taking additional weeks off after March break (as are we here in Ontario). It's all kinda crazy, and completely unpredictable. Movies are being pushed back, some by a year. Who knows how any of this will affect the Boxoffice. It has a wait and see, stay tuned kinda feel to it.
The Cineplex Builder has been set to $57k value for this week.
Guyett is questioning if "Onward" just wasn't a success or if COVID-19 factors were in play. Friday the 13th should help horror movies and "Sonic the Hedgehog" should see a nice rebound from "Onward". Christian movies usually do well at the Box Office, but can "I Still Believe" bring in an audience like "I Can Only Imagine" when group outings are getting cancelled which is a big draw for movies like this.
BSW doesn't think "Bloodshot" has a shot this week. It's an obscure superhero type movie, not unlike Brightburn, which will carry a niche audience, perhaps.
Phil is dubbing the season Pandemic Season, and in week 2, he puts "Bad Boys for Life", "Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey", "Jumanji: The Next Level" and "1917" as DOA.
BOP is all about "Sonic the Hedgehog". They love it and think that it'll take BP. A little ways back they have "Onward" then way back is "The Way Back" in third.
BOR is keeping up with the trend of Christian movies doing well, and has "I Still Believe" coming in first. "In second he has "Sonic the Hedgehog" and in third, "The Way Back"
Mojo isn't even gonna try this week. Can't say I blame them much.
"Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey" took a heavy hit losing over half its theatres, going down to 1014 from 2173. "Fantasy Island" goes down to a lowly 515, "Brahms: The Boy 2" didn't fair much better by keeping 607. Even "1917" at 766 and "Jumanji: The Next Level" at 862 couldn't break 1000.
So what to do, what to do this week. I'm really throw darts blind trying to figure out how the weekend is going to go. I'm either anchoring with 1x "Onward" or 4x "I Still Believe"…I think. I have "Fantasy Island", "I Still Believe", "Onward", "Sonic the Hedgehog" and "The Way Back" as my top tier for BP but I'm not confident at all with any of that. I have 2 favourites but even then I'm not overly sure about anything.
