FML Spotlight

Jeffery Barefoot

Hello fellow FMLers!

Welcome to the weekly FML Spotlight! My name is Jeffery but you may know me better as Katniss Cinnaplex. Each week I'll be highlighting the top players in each of the public leagues (FML League, Monthly Matchup and Season Showdown) and tracking the race to the top of the leaderboards.

The film industry was abuzz this weekend heading into Sunday night's Academy Awards ceremony. Four films on the FML slate took home awards with Parasite the big winner of the group. Parasite took home Best Picture, Best Director, Best International Feature and Best Original Screenplay. 1917 won awards for Cinematography, Sound Mixing and Visual Effects while Jojo Rabbit won Best Adapted Screenplay. Little Women wrapped up the awards for movies still in play with its Costume Design win. We'll expect to see an impact for those films this coming weekend as people rush out to (re)watch the winners. Back to this weekend, Dolittle was the surprise best performer (BP) edging out Gretel & Hansel's attempt at back-to-back wins. The perfect cineplex (PC) included four screens of Bad Boys for Life along with four screens of Dolittle.

Season Showdown

Exxdee's two accounts remain in the lead yet again though the field continues to close the gap. If the next few players had hit the PC the lead could have been down to around $5 million but Most Frequent was the only player in the top ten who played it. Most Frequent jumped from 9th to 3rd and is followed by Merlin's Magical Multiplex (12th to 4th) and The Good Plex (13th to 5th). Rubyplex, FMLPOD, and WishcasteR take up the next three spots, hanging in the top ten for another week despite missing out on the bonus money. El Tejanjo and Late Joining Cineplex round out the top ten and climbed all the way from 37th and 39th respectively! What looked like a runaway win for Exxdee the past few weeks is starting to feel a little in doubt. Don't wait too long to make your move though, there are only three weeks left in the season.

Most Frequent has emerged from the pack of seven as the only player with four PCs running. As you saw above, this streak has propelled him all the way to third place!

Monthly Matchup

February kicked off this week with a much less played PC than the past few weeks. Forty players find themselves tied for the lead after the first of four weeks. Tiebreakers often come into play with such short contests; if there is a tie after four weeks FML will use the combined tiebreaker differences from all four weeks for each player to break the ties. This week Mouse Rat, Altra Magnus, BBH Part Deux, PMWCC, and Lorem Ipsum lead the standings in tiebreaker difference.

The FML League

The FML League is the one-stop, go-to league for all players in Fantasy Movie League. Each week brings us a new contest; ties are almost guaranteed so you really need to be on top of your tiebreaker game. The tiebreaker this week was to predict the opening weekend gross for Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn): $33,010,017. This week's only new release was quite the bomb at the box office. While nobody expected this movie to come anywhere close to Joker which opened to $96 million and has crossed over one billion worldwide, not many could predict just how low this would go. In fact, only four of the 60 PC players this week guessed below the actual gross! Mouse Rat was the closest of the four but their $2.11 million difference wasn't enough to edge out this week's winner KOTRT34! The mystery knight earns the Margot Robbie signed Harley Quinn photo and an FML t-shirt!

This coming weekend players will be competing for an Air Force One photo along with an FML "Winner" t-shirt. Good luck, and don't forget to set those tiebreakers!

Disclaimer: all winners eligibility must be confirmed by Fantasy Movie League before receiving prizes.
