Coming Soon: The Lovebirds

It's Academy Awards time again, Fantasy Movie League. While most people are talking about who will be taking home golden trophies, I decided to take some time off from Oscar bait to enjoy some goofy comedy. This week I watched the preview for "The Lovebirds," the upcoming movie starring Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani.

"The Lovebirds" is a movie about a couple whose relationship becomes complicated when they mistakenly get accused of a murder. In order to clear their names, the couple gets into wacky situations as they try to find the real killer.

"The Lovebirds" is directed by Michael Showalter, who previously worked with Nanjiani in "The Big Sick." "The Big Sick" was one of my favorite 2017, which is a point that benefits "The Lovebirds."

Aside from "Stuber," I really like Kumail Nanjiani. My husband and I had tickets to see him do stand-up before he was in movies, but had to skip the show after our basement flooded. Basements are the worst, unless you need a place to store all the stuff that you never use.

There were a lot of funny bits in this preview, but the best might have been the final clip, which shows the main characters stuck in a twister version of "Let's Make a Deal." Being hit with bacon grease, or door #1? Which would you choose?

"The Lovebirds" comes to theaters the weekend of April 3-5. It looks like it will make for a fun trip to the theater, unless Minnesota is enjoying a joyous April blizzard.
