Hello fellow FMLers!
Welcome to the weekly FML Spotlight! My name is Jeffery but you may know me better as Katniss Cinnaplex. Each week I'll be highlighting the top players in each of the public leagues (FML League, Monthly Matchup and Season Showdown) and tracking the race to the top of the leaderboards.
This week we welcomed three new movies to the slate and the wide expansion for 1917. Like a Boss premiered in over 3,000 theaters to a mere $10 million opening while the Kristen Stewart thriller Underwater surprised by opening slightly above its $6.5 million forecast. Just Mercy also expanded this weekend, going from four theaters to 2,375 as it performed much better than expectations earning around $9.7 million. 1917 was the big winner this week, earning the best performer (BP) bonus and taking the top spot in the perfect cineplex (PC). It was joined by a screen of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, two screens of Frozen II and four screens of Ford v Ferrari.
For the second week in a row we have tremendous variety in the top 10 - seven different lineups! Of course, there's no way that all of those could survive so let's take a look at the changes. Exxdee's The Turning Cinema Forum and Exxdee's Plex: They're Alive, Damnit, were the only two accounts that hit the PC and, naturally, they remain at the top and extend the lead even further. The Executive moved up to third by way of Lucid Dreams using the same lineup as last week. Lucky for them, they only dropped to fourth place. Rubyplex moved from 8th to 6th with a Knives Out-heavy lineup. The Good Plex is the only other remaining top ten as they fell from fifth to ninth. Full Metal Cineplex and WishcasteR both joined the top ten with PCs, climbing from 16th to fifth and 17th to seventh respectively. Also
moving into the top ten are FMLPOD at eighth and The Forest Again at tenth.
Both Exxdee accounts have extended their PC streak to four in a row (and five out of six for this season!)
Last week we kicked off the January matchup with 61 players tied for the lead. Just one week later only eight players remain perfect. Those players are as follows: Exxdee's Plex: They're Alive, Damnit, Exxdee's The Turning Cinema Forum, Marksteu4's Cineplex, RPA, WishcasteR, 2001: A Cineplex, Full Metal Cineplex and Stillwater. Rounding out the top 10 are El Tejano and Nuxdistance Model hanging back only $5.26 million.
The FML League
The FML League is the one-stop, go-to league for all players in Fantasy Movie League. Each week brings us a new contest; ties are almost guaranteed so you really need to be on top of your tiebreaker game. The tiebreaker this week was to predict the wide expansion weekend gross for 1917: $37,000,200. There were only 75 players who were able to nail the PC this week, and only one could be the closest on the tiebreaker. With such a large expansion (11 to 3,434 screens), it was hard to predict exactly where the weekend would fall for 1917. That being said, only seven of the PC players guessed within a million of the final gross. Lindsay's Cineplex came in with the best tiebreaker and is this week's winner of the signed Rudy poster!
This coming weekend players will be competing for a Will Smith and Martin Lawrence signed Bad Boys DVD along with an FML "Winner" t-shirt. Good luck, and don't forget to set those tiebreakers!
Disclaimer: all winners eligibility must be confirmed by Fantasy Movie League before receiving prizes.
