Would you like to build a lineup?

Lindsay Chrapko

Each Thursday I'll give a little breakdown on how to build your lineup with the information readily available to everyone, especially if you don't know where to start.

this can always change pending preview numbers and are by no means a guarantee to win

FML Legend (so you aren't completely lost)

BP - Best Performer; earns you an extra $2 million to your cinema, this is the "highest Box Office per FML Buck"

PC - Perfect Cineplex; earns you an extra $5 million to your cinema, this when you elect the perfect lineup "resulting in the highest possible total Box Office score plus any bonuses already earned."

WP - Worst Performer; this is the worst movie based on Box Office per FML Box spent

TC - Theatre Count; how many theatres the movie will be appearing in, this will up or down depending on how long the movie has been out for, special events etc

BB/Bar - Bonus Bar; this is the predicted value a movie needs to meet/exceed to be your BP contender.

Holdover - a movie that is in its second or more week on the slate.

Slate - the 15 movies you get to choose from each week :)

Anchor - The movie most likely to helm your cineplex; this can be anything from the movie that will make the most Box Office money over the weekend, or multiples of the same movie that helms your cineplex.

GOAT - 20th Century Flops. No more information required. :D

Oh hey, I was right on the mark last week! Anyone who played the Thelma and Louise line of "Harriet" got blessed with the PC. It's always a risky move going for an 8x play, and it only beat the 1/7 line with the "Joker" anchor by a wee bit, but it feels so good when it works out.

This week we have a bunch of new releases to look at so lets get to it.

Cineplex Builder>>

The Cineplex Builder has us starting off at $63k value this week.

Bonus Bar>>

Guyett has set the bonus bar at $60k. My personal BB is at $65k. Some things to note; "Harriet" got the BP pricing penalty and will most likely not be this week's BP and "Motherless Brooklyn" will retain most of its theatres, as long as it doesn't go to split screens, it could be a dark horse BP pick.

BSA>>

The BSA is advising us against playing "Parasite" this week. Seems like a very reasonable BSA this week.

Fandango Check>>

Phil has noted that "Motherless Brooklyn" has seen a significant uptick in its showtimes and you should adjust your estimates accordingly. He's also saying that "Countdown" and "Black and Blue" are DOA this week so proceed with caution on those ones.

Weekly Comps>>

Waco's comps will help you with the new releases this week. Keep an eye on the newcomers and see if they'll feature as your anchor/BP this week.

Boxoffice Pro>>

BOP is banking on "Zombieland: Double Tap" going over $65k value this week and being your BP. A short distance behind they have "Doctor Sleep" followed by "Last Christmas".

Boxoffice Report>>

BOR is also going with "Zombieland: Double Tap" for his top pick. He has "Addams Family" as second value and "Jojo Rabbit" third.

Boxoffice Mojo>>

Mojo makes three for "Zombieland: Double Tap" for the top BP pick of the week. They have "Doctor Sleep" next, followed by "Addams Family".

Theatre Counts>>

"Black and Blue" and "Countdown" took some good TC cut's this week, while "Parasite" and "Harriet" saw a bit of a bump.

So if you're rolling with the pros this week, you'll be playing "Zombieland: Double Tap". I'm not 100% sold on that. The drawback with the pros, is that they almost never give you the full slate for estimates so there's always the chance that something they didn't report on does well. That's the way I'm currently leaning, but I do have "Zombieland: Double Tap" in my top 3 this week, so we'll see what happens tomorrow with previews :)
