Hello fellow FMLers!
Welcome to the weekly FML Spotlight! My name is Jeffery but you may know me better as Katniss Cinnaplex. Each week I'll be highlighting the top players in each of the public leagues (FML League, Monthly Matchup and Season Showdown) and tracking the race to the top of the leaderboards.
This week was highlighted by the one new release: Joker. Pros were forecasting a near $100 million opening weekend for the DC origin story which called for the dreaded split pricing. The pricing gods were generous, however, and didn't charge too much for any of the days. In fact, all three days of Joker ended up in the top three values when all was said and done. Sunday took home the best value and this week's best performer (BP) bonus. The perfect cineplex (PC) consisted of three screens of Sunday Joker, one screen of It: Chapter Two and two screens each of Judy and Angel Has Fallen.
Fall season marches on and week five brings yet another shakeup to the top 10. Megaplex Lestrange, Valley of Disaster, wyrmlord's Cineplex and Sweep the Leg saw their top-10 ranking slip away; their absences making way for four new players. ChrisFHD jumped 55 spots into 3rd, Late Joining Cineplex moved from 35 to 4th, AethelredtheUnready climbed from 86th to 5th and Magical Sparkle Pony rose from 25th to 6th. There's also a new leader for the season; Circle of Life was the only one in last week's top 10 to play the PC and he celebrates with an almost $10 million lead over second place AP.
In the last two weeks only ONE person has hit the PC twice: EJ Breaks the Internet. Here are EJ's ranks in season showdown for the past four weeks: 2365, 1071, 262, and now 64. He's all the proof you need that a couple of PCs and another good lineup is all you need to get back into the top 100!
The October contest kicked off this week and that means everyone who played the perfect cineplex is currently tied for first! That includes 58 skilled box office prognosticators who are led by KP's Drive-In, philandfilm, magicxxx13's Cineplex, Obie and MJM Grand Theatres. These five had the best tiebreakers in the contest and will have a leg up if they end up tied for the lead in four weeks. It's not just 15 minutes of fame you're after, either. The monthly matchup awards cash gift card prizes to the top three cineplexes in the amounts of $1,000, $250 and $100.
The FML League
The FML League is the one-stop, go-to league for all players in Fantasy Movie League. Each week brings us a new contest; ties are almost guaranteed so you really need to be on top of your tiebreaker game. The tiebreaker this week was to predict Friday's gross for Joker: $39,350,693. There were 152(!) with perfect lineups (seriously, why aren't you all playing in the monthly matchup for the cash prizes??), thirteen of whom were within $1,000,000 of the tiebreaker. Mega D Plex, Ron Don's Drive-In, Jeff's Cineplex and Anubis Studios were the first four runner-ups but it was Alan Smithee's Rejected Films who came through in the clutch. With a tiebreaker only $22k over the actual amount, Smithee will be taking home the Jack Nicholson-signed Batman photo and FML t-shirt.
This coming weekend players will be competing for a cast-signed The Addams Family poster from the 1991 film along with an FML "Winner" t-shirt. Good luck, and don't forget to set those tiebreakers!
Disclaimer: all winners eligibility must be confirmed by Fantasy Movie League before receiving prizes.
