FML Spotlight

Jeffery Barefoot

Hello fellow FMLers!

Welcome to the weekly FML Spotlight! My name is Jeffery but you may know me better as Katniss Cinnaplex. Each week I'll be highlighting the top players in each of the public leagues (FML League, Monthly Matchup and Season Showdown) and tracking the race to the top of the leaderboards.

The hit tv show Downton Abbey made its way to the big screen this week setting a new best opening for Focus Features. Including $2.2 million from preview shows last week, Downton Abbey brought in $31 million to easily out-gross the two other newcomers Ad Astra and Rambo: Last Blood. It wasn't enough for the best performer (BP) bonus though, as that honor went to Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, which narrowly beat out Ad Astra for the best value per FML bux. This week's perfect cineplex (PC) was four screens of Ad Astra, one screen of the new double feature (including Good Boys and The Lion King), and three screens on the BP.

Season Showdown

A rare BP and PC didn't exactly shake up the standings; last week's top three shuffled a bit with THE Garfield moving to the top. Vladamir Putin and Brando dropped to third and fourth as they gave way to Circle of Life, who moved up 140 spots by playing the PC! Sexi Putter Pando and Nux also jumped into the top 10 thanks to PC plays.

Two players have now hit back-to-back PCs: Sexi Putter Pando and Circle of Life. Both are in the top six and in prime position heading into week four!

Monthly Matchup

With only one week left in September, Circle of Life made his big move from 107th straight to the top spot. Fake News, Brando, Son of a Motherless Goat, Sexi Putter Pando, Nux, Chumming, Z's Astral Zoetrope, eljbR19 Cineplex and Josh's Cineplex round out the top ten and are all within $6 million of the lead heading into the finale.

The FML League

The FML League is the one-stop, go-to league for all players in Fantasy Movie League. Each week brings us a new contest; ties are almost guaranteed so you really need to be on top of your tiebreaker game. The tiebreaker this week was to predict the opening weekend gross for Downton Abbey: $31,033,665. With only sixteen players hitting the perfect lineup, each had a pretty good shot at winning. Four of the sixteen failed to set a tiebreaker and were immediately removed from contention. Six players were able to guess within $5 million of the winning number. Amorchi came in third with just under a $2 million variance; Sexi Putter Pando finished in second, missing by $1,366,451. The winner of the Rambo: First Blood Part II photo signed by Sylvester Stallone is…NUX! A big week for Nux put him in 7th in Season Showdown, 6th in Monthly Matchup and a win here.

This coming weekend players will be competing for a Judy Garland A Star is Born album and an FML "Winner" t-shirt. Good luck, and don't forget to set those tiebreakers!
