Hello fellow FMLers!
Welcome to the weekly FML Spotlight! My name is Jeffery but you may know me better as Katniss Cinnaplex. Each week I'll be highlighting the top players in each of the public leagues (FML League, Monthly Matchup and Season Showdown) and tracking the race to the top of the leaderboards.
Constance Wu and J-Lo took the stage this week in the surprise hit Hustlers. This film broke STX's opening weekend record (previously held by 2016's Bad Moms) by a whopping $9 million! While the $33 million was record-breaking, it wasn't enough to box out It: Chapter Two from winning its second straight weekend. It was enough, however, to earn it the title of Best Performer (BP) to earn an extra $2 million for your cineplex. The Goldfinch also released this week but was unable to find traction with the general audience as it secured the sixth worst opening weekend of any movie released in 2,500 or more theaters. The perfect cineplex (PC) this week consisted of Hustlers, five screens of Angel Has Fallen and two of The Lion King.
Last week we had a very rare PC where three lucky players jumped out to a lead. This week 244 nailed the PC while last week's winners all dropped out of the top 300. Vladimir Putin, Brando and THE Garfield made their way to the top of the leaderboard, though only $328,445 separates them from the next group of three. In a thirteen-week season, anything can happen so don't give up!
For the second consecutive week we don't have anyone on a PC streak!
Much like the season-long contest, we have new leaders in the September contest. This time, however, only Vladimir Putin and Brando sit in the lead while Fieryarts's Cineplex and Son of a Motherless Goat trail right behind. The leaders jumped from 26th and 27th place while the next two were outside the top 80 a week ago. With only two weeks left there are 143 players within $10 million of the lead.
The FML League
The FML League is the one-stop, go-to league for all players in Fantasy Movie League. Each week brings us a new contest; ties are almost guaranteed so you really need to be on top of your tiebreaker game. The tiebreaker this week was to predict the second weekend gross for It: Chapter 2: $39,606,550. Two hundred and seventy players put together perfect lineups this week in the FML league but how close was enough to win? A million away seems like a good place to start but 47 people accomplished that feat. Battle Ranger was just inside a $500,000 variance, but that was only good for 25th place. BBH's guess was under $100,000 off but still five players were better. In second place was Craig's Grindhouse ® who guessed only $10,851 under the actual gross. Nobody was able to out-predict John Snowden though, whose guess of $39,610,101 was only $3,551 over the correct amount! Congrats to John Snowden on winning the week and earning himself a cast signed The Breakfast Club poster and an FML "Winner" t-shirt!
This coming weekend players will be competing for a Rambo: First Blood Part II photo signed by Sylvester Stallone along with an FML "Winner" t-shirt. Good luck, and don't forget to set those tiebreakers!
