Coming Soon: John Wick 3

Becky Aurit

I have a movie-related confession. I haven't seen "John Wick." I haven't seen "John Wick: Chapter 2" either, and I don't have any plans to watch the two "John Wick" movies either. You can blame my husband for my lack of Wick viewership, since he told me about the dog thing. I can handle seeing Keanu Reeves kill a lot of people, but the dog thing would get to me.

In spite of the fact that I haven't seen the first two "John Wick" movies, I still watched the trailer for "John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum." While it didn't make a lot of sense to me, I do have a few thoughts about who might be the target market for the latest installment in the "John Wick" franchise.

Dog People

Dogs feature very prominently in this trailer, so maybe some dog fans were able to get through the first Wick movie. The preview starts with John Wick and a pit-bull running through the rain. Wick is wearing a suit in this scene, which seems like a bad fabric-care move on his part. There is also a shot later on with two German Shepherds who kind of seem to be flying through the air after a potential bad guy. Finally, Hallie Barry shows up towards the end of the preview, with two very good doggos and some killer outfits.

My Father-in-Law

The "John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum" trailer is set to Frank Sinatra's "The Impossible Dream." The only Sinatra fan I can think of is my father-in-law. I am not even sure if he is actually a fan, but once he was very impressed that someone had "My Way" played at their funeral.

People Who Like Tom Cruise

From what I could gather, "John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum" is about Wick getting kicked out of some sort of society that is full of evil killing machines. That sounds like almost every "Mission: Impossible" movie I have ever seen. Unfortunately, unlike Ethan Hunt, John Wick doesn't have a group of loyal sidekicks. He may or may not have a wet dog, though.

Apparently "John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum" isn't for geometry fans. I thought I remembered learning about parabellums in 9th grade, but those were actually parabolas. Parabellums are apparently a type of fire arm, and the term also means "prepare for war" in Latin.

"John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum" comes to theaters the weekend of May 17-19. While I won't be spending any quality time with Keanu Reeves that weekend, I am sure that "John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum" will be a hit with viewers and Fantasy Movie League players.
