Week 5 Box Office Estimates

Hey folks, Todd from www.toddmthatcher.com here bringing you my take on Week 5. It's another four-day holiday weekend as we bid farewell to 2016 and welcome in 2017. The last two occasions that we've seen New Years fall on the same days (2005, 2011), many of the leftovers experienced rather significant increases from their three-day haul in the Christmas weekend. That could certainly occur again and likely will in some cases.

With theaters filled with plenty of product, there are no wide releases joining the mix. However, potential Oscar hopefuls "Lion" and "Jackie" are entering the FML lineup. Here's how I have the 15 selected features performing:

"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" - $74.9 million

"Sing" - $56.6 million

"Passengers" - $18.3 million

"Why Him?" - $16.1 million

"Moana" - $12.7 million

"Assassin's Creed" - $12.2 million

"La La Land" - $10 million

"Fences" - $9.8 million

"Office Christmas Party" - $5.8 million

"Collateral Beauty" - $5.2 million

"Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" - $4 million

"Manchester by the Sea" - $3.5 million

"Lion" - $1.7 million

"Jackie" - $1.7 million

"Arrival" - $1.6 million

That leaves with me with a final screen of the year containing "Rogue", "Creed", "La La", "Lion", and a 4x "Arrival" play. What say you, FMLers, on this last weekend of 2016?
